Dr Greg Sambrook Smith has two key strands to his work, undertaking laboratory experiments to quantify the relationships between flow, bed topography and sediment dynamics at the micro-scale and then nesting this work within much larger scale research that looks at the overall sedimentological dynamics of entire river reaches. Most recently he has been developing the use of geophysical techniques as a tool for providing an improved quantification of braided river deposits and quantifying flow and fine-sediment transport within pore spaces in river gravels.
