Living with the river Downstream view of the Paraná River

Methodology

The methodology has three integrated components: (i) rapid field survey of contemporary bed morphology, flow structure and sediment transport; (ii) field survey of contemporary (within-channel) and abandoned bar (adjacent to main river) subsurface sedimentology; and (iii) numerical modelling of river flow, sediment transport and braid-bar dynamics, channel change and preserved braid-bar sedimentology.

Field survey to establish the rates of and controls on braid-bar growth and evolution

Field survey to establish braid-bar alluvial architecture for contemporary and abandoned channels

Numerical modelling to simulate flow, sediment transport, braid bar evolution and sedimentology
